Agape Instructions
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. ~ Ephesians 3:17-19 What is agape? Agape means love, as in the love of God. It is a wonderful encouragement to the Pilgrims to remind them that they are being uplifted in loving prayer throughout the weekend. As you make or purchase agape gifts for the Pilgrims it becomes a blessing to you as you lift the Pilgrims and Team to the Lord in prayer. Who makes these gifts of agape? As a sponsor of a Pilgrim on a Walk to Emmaus weekend, it is a generally expected that you will make or purchase gifts of agape for the pilgrims and/or team on the weekend. (Remember, this is one of the things you agreed to do when you signed the Walk to Emmaus Application for your Pilgrim.) It is also common for Reunion Groups to make or purchase gifts of agape for a particular Walk. Sometimes certain Reunion Groups make agape gifts for multiple Walks or for all Walks. However, you do not have to be a Sponsor or part of a Reunion Group to make or purchase agape gifts. You just have to have a loving Spirit. Is there any special type of agape I should or should not make? You can make food agape or agape for the beds or for the conference/dining room tables. Pilgrims (and team) LOVE to receive homemade food, like warm cookies, rice crispy treats, etc... Other non-food types of agape can be anything that pertains to God’s love, the healing grace He offers us, how to be His servants, etc… There is no limit to the type or number of gifts you can make. However, we can not distribute items that could violate copyrights (copies of music, etc.). How do I label the agape gifts? When you make your gifts, you may want to attach a label with a particular scripture or simple phrase associated with your gift. You may also want to add your Reunion Group name or church name. These gifts are to actually represent God’s love and therefore we should remain as anonymous servants. How do I package the agape? When bundling your agape to deliver to the Walk, it is quite helpful to the Team Assistants if you would label your agape for the particular day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and location (Bed or Table agape), as well as the number of pieces included. Sometimes people even make agape for a particular talk.
The 4th Day Team and/or Team Assistants (or anyone else you know to be serving on the team) will gladly accept your agape gifts and deliver them to the appropriate location. Please make sure to specify (particularly on Thursday) if the food gifts are for Sendoff or for the weekend. |
